Imagine you are coming out to play in a silly Magic Unfinity sealed event. It's Ugly Sweater week so you are in your best (or worst) apparel. You might get a cool space shock land, but it's one last event before the holiday break. You make your way inside and realize you'll be playing against a Magic Pro Tour champion and Hall of Famer. Let's also mention a very friendly and welcoming Pro Tour champion and Hall of Famer.
Reid Duke was at the shop for the day to meet the regulars, sign autographs, and have some fun playing Magic. It was a great treat for the players, many who had no idea there would be a special guest appearance. Reid was kind enough to bring some giveaway items for the players and was gracious enough to sign cards and playmats. One of the most notable aspects of the day was how Reid blended in with everyone else, talking with everyone between rounds and joking around with the players. He also answered the bell for a couple of Standard matchups before and after the event. He took pictures throughout the day and was a pleasure to have in for an appearance. If anyone is interested, Reid finished the event 3-0 but did drop a couple of games along the way - certainly some bragging rights for our players who may try the "I almost had him" route.
I can't thank Reid enough for his time and generosity. I also can't thank our players enough for their support and sense of community. It also goes to show that you never know who you'll be up against in events here.
