SWU Box Tournament Recap

With a new set being released for Star Wars Unlimited, it was only fitting that we have an all-day launch party. The feature event was the Super Sealed Box Tournament that had players building decks out of a sealed booster box. Make your way through the field and survive the Top Cut and you get yourself another box.  The mistake is thinking that it's simple. With a sold out field of 24 players and 5 rounds to battle through, making the Top 8 was far from a walk in the park. One thing was for sure though - there were a lot of cracks packed!

The house regulars were here, the regular "travelers" were here, and we welcomed some brand new players in for the first time.  With boxes being ripped, players were faced with putting together a deck of 40 cards out of a cardpool of over 300.  Usually in sealed events you go where your kit takes you, but it's an entirely different beast when your box takes you in every direction.  Once the Swiss rounds were complete, the Top 8 was set.

Zack W. (4-1) vs Robert (3-2)
Clare (4-1) vs Steve R. (3-1-1)
Eric (4-1) vs Marc R. (3-1-1)
Steve K. (3-1-1) vs Justin (3-1-1)

If you were named Steve, the Force was with you in this event, as both Steve Kline. and Steve Reilly made it to the final round.  In the end, Steve Kline showed why he has consistently found himself in Top Cuts - taking down the event with a red Han deck highlighted by Wrecker, a rare that did work every time it hit the field.  Properly named, Wrecker was as advertised, leading Steve to the win.

Star Wars Unlimited plays weekly here on Friday nights.  Come on out to meet our wretched hive and get some games in.
