There is a definitive reason why this game is called Magic "The Gathering". Whether you play at home on the weekends with friends or make the trek to the shop to play in any of our events, you will be among other Magic players. Anyone in the position of being the only Magic player at their job, class, or friend group knows what its like to have no one that can relate or speak the language. This is where "The Gathering" comes in, and it's the most important aspect of the game.
Our area has no shortage of shops to play TCG's, with Magic being at the top of the list. Each shop has their own core player base, with other players that pop in and out for events throughout the month. All different formats, compete levels, and prize pools make MTG very accessible for all players. Outside of the weekly local events, Magic has many ways to play on a bigger, more competitive stage. This creates groups that travel together to stay, play, and cheer each other on. "The Gathering" slowly becomes "The Fellowship", creating bonds and rivalries that last way beyond the shop doors after closing time.
One of the most fun events is the Star City Games Convention (SCG CON). It is an event that tours the country all throughout the year, with local stores able to host qualifying events to earn seats in Regional Championships and other events. The latest stop in Milwaukee was also combined with the Star Wars Unlimited Regional Championship, making it a must attend weekend for anyone who is a fan/player of both games.
Players from both games made the trip out to Wisconsin and had a great time. One of our regular players qualified for Day 2 of the Regional Championship with a solid 7-2 Day 1 record. No matter what the finish was, everyone had a great time playing, trading, eating, and being surrounded by thousands of other players and collectors. Hopefully we will see you at one of our convention stops!
